DIN 6912 low head socket cap screws with pilot recess are designed for tight-clearance metric applications where a standard socket head cap screw may be too tall. They feature a cylindrical low head, internal hex socket drive and pilot recess for use with suitable pilot-tip hex keys or DIN 6911 style tools.
The pilot recess helps guide and support the tool during installation, especially in recessed or limited-access areas. DIN 6912 screws are commonly used in compact machinery, equipment housings, automotive assemblies, fixtures, brackets and maintenance repair applications.
Available materials include Class 8.8 steel with black oxide finish, A2 stainless steel and A4 stainless steel. A2 stainless steel is used for general corrosion resistance, while A4 stainless steel offers improved corrosion resistance for marine, outdoor and washdown environments.
Because of the reduced head geometry, DIN 6912 fasteners have reduced loadability according to ISO 898-1 and should be selected where the application load is appropriate.
